As Permitting & Compliance Expert at Bnewable, you will:
- take the lead in the permitting process for batteries on industrial sites in Flanders and Wallonia.
- act as an expert within the company regarding permitting needs and obligations for Flanders and Wallonia.
- have discussions with relevant municipalities and fire brigades to comply with the local needs regarding the battery projects with a pragmatic approach.
- make drawings and plans for all stages of the project (initial mock up, final plans for permit submissions, renders on integration of BESS project on industrial site).
- align the best practices for batteries and the requirements and preferences of the customer.
- standardize the permitting approach to scale the number of permit applications.
- submit permit applications in Flanders and Wallonia.
- be at the forefront of regulations and obligations regarding batteries (e.g. What is needed for recycling).

Your Profile.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- a degree in Law/Legal Practice, Environmental Science and Technology, Environmental coordinator or a related field.
- working knowledge in Dutch, French and English both oral and written.
- to be precise and be able to identify the devil in the details.
- experience with permitting processes (environmental, construction) ideally in Flanders and Wallonia.
- working knowledge of Belgian and EU environmental, energy and safety regulations (Vlarem, Code de l’environment Wallon, Nice to have: EU Battery regulation).
- familiarity with industrial zoning and land-use planning in Belgium.
- to be a problem solver with a creative mindset, capable of analysing challenges from multiple angles to develop effective and innovative solutions.
- a driver’s licence in case you need to go on site.
- to be able to make up permitting drawings for batteries on a tool (e.g. CAD software).
- nice to have: understanding of Lithium-ion battery technology and their risks (e.g. thermal runaway), you are eager to understand recycling obligations and help shape them in Belgium.
