“Helping industry tackle on site energy challenges requires strong local teams” –
New General Manager Belgium
Bnewable develops behind the meter battery solutions tailored to industrial customers. Local regulation, market design and the specific needs of industrial sites play a decisive role. This explains the choice for strong local country organizations that are close to the operational reality of their customers and have an in depth understanding of regulatory frameworks. Within each country organization, we bring together business development, solutions and customer success, BESS development and site operations, and regulatory expertise. This integrated approach helps us make the right decisions faster, navigate permitting processes and manage battery projects successfully over the long term.
The Belgian and German teams will each be led by a General Manager with full responsibility for commercial development, solutions, project delivery and operational activities in their market. In Belgium, this role is taken up by Matthias Masschelin. In Germany, Philipp Graf will assume this position.
For Matthias Masschelin, his new role aligns seamlessly with his extensive background in the energy sector and at Bnewable: “I know how complex the Belgian market can be. Working together with industry to develop solutions for their energy challenges, while also bringing regulators along, is the ambition I set for myself. With our batteries, we address a real need, both for industrial players and for the grid.”
This new structure allows our founders, Kristof Vereenooghe and Christophe Degrez, to focus even more on long term strategy, capital allocation and the broader product strategy across markets. In this way, we safeguard coherence and scalability, while local teams take on maximum ownership.
Christophe Degrez: “This is exactly the kind of responsibility and intrapreneurship we want to encourage at Bnewable. We deliberately build a company culture in which people take ownership and can grow. Matthias has been building Bnewable with us since day one. It makes me extremely proud to see the role he takes on today. He is the right person to translate the complexity of today’s Belgian energy landscape into concrete value for our customers.”

Kristof Vereenooghe: “With this step, we make our organization easier to scale. It allows us to expand into new countries without increasing complexity, while continuing to operate as one company.”
Philipp Graf, General Manager for Germany, highlights the importance of proximity: “Local responsibility is essential to make real impact. This structure enables us to respond faster to customer needs and build solutions that match the reality of the market.”
This new structure is designed to help Bnewable create value for our customers and for the energy system as a whole. By being locally embedded, we can work constructively with regulators and ultimately contribute to a more resilient and efficient electricity grid.
